How can counselling help?
Counselling can help you to understand what is going on for you, to feel clearer about what you need and what you want. Past events may be troubling you, or you may be worrying about a current problem or a future concern. You may have a general sense of unhappiness or lack of direction which has been going on for some time. Counselling is about working together to look at what may be holding you back from getting what you want from your life, and to help you to move forward in a way that feels positive for you.
What sort of counsellor are you?
I am UKCP accredited and a member of the BACP. I am an Integrative Counsellor, which means that I integrate a range of theoretical models and techniques. Most important for me is the personal interaction between client and counsellor, which can help a client to use his or her own resources to find a way through. I draw on psychodynamic and humanistic and systemic theories which allows us to look at your past, present and the way you interact and relate with others.
I work with adults and young people on a one-to-one basis and with couples. I have a warm and empathic approach and will not judge or criticise you.
My experience includes working within Mind and other counselling agency settings as well as in private practice with the following difficulties:
- Relationships (partner, children, family, friendships)
- Bereavement and Loss
- Divorce and Separation
- Affairs and Betrayal
- Parenting and Family Issues
- Domestic Abuse
- Sexual Abuse
- Work related issues
- Health related concerns
- Lack of confidence
- Low self-esteem
The first step is to set up an initial meeting. During this session you will be able to tell me what has brought you to counselling, and we can discuss what you hope to gain from the sessions. We will look at a possible time frame for our work together, although this can be changed if we agree it is appropriate. You will have the chance to ask any questions you may have. If you decide that counselling is not for you there is no obligation.
Number of sessions
There are no hard and fast rules as to how many sessions you might need. Sometimes just a few sessions can make a difference to a particular area of your life you have been struggling with. However, sometimes a longer period of counselling may be required. I do not set a limit on how many sessions you will need. We will work this out together and we can review it at any time.
Frequency and length of sessions
It is usual to meet weekly, on the same day at the same time and we can discuss what would best suit you when we first meet.
One-to one sessions will last for 50 minutes and couples sessions for 1 hour.
Indivdual (one-to-one): £50.00 per session.
Couples: £60.00 per session.
I am a registered PMI provider for: BUPA, Aviva, WPA, Vitality and Cigna
A limited number of concessions are available for students and those who may have difficulty paying the full fee. We can discuss and agree an appropriate fee when we meet.
